Maria has been working in teaching since 1994, initially working in secondary schools teaching German and French. When her children were small she did exam marking for OCR, and worked in adult education at Thurrock College and for the Open University.

With the idea of wanting to raise her children bilingually, Maria joined the German Saturday School movement and worked primarily at the Saturday School in Croydon.

Maria is currently working on a new resource called 'German Society: Multiculturalism, Immigration and Identity for A Level German'.
